I loved finally being able to read Ben's love story! Although not as emotionally heartbreaking as Drew and Cate's story was in Cruel & Beautiful, I did shed some tears throughout my reading. These two authors did another amazing collaboration together and I hope they do it again soon! This book sucked me in and led me on an emotional journey to the very end.
Ben is the ultimate playboy womanizer until he meets Sam. They have intense chemistry from the beginning and start off as being nothing more than a casual thing. What starts off casual quickly becomes more. But Ben has a reason for only wanting casual. After losing his best friend who was like a brother to him a little over a year ago to cancer he can't stand to lose anyone close to him again. While he is dealing with his past, Sam is dealing with a personal dilemma that could tear them apart forever. Will Sam be his game changer or will her secrets tear them apart forever? I empathize with Sam and Ben and what they were each going through. Those are both very hard situations to get a handle on. Although I fell in love with Ben by the end, he was a huge jerk for part of the time. At times he had me wanting to reach into my Kindle and shake some sense into him but he wormed his way into my heart by the end.
Even though the authors state that this is a standalone, I highly recommend reading Cruel & Beautiful where Ben is first introduced. This will give you some more background knowledge on all the struggles Ben went through when his best friend died of cancer. I very much look forward to reading more from these two amazing authors.
