Review: Wrecked by JB Salsbury

*****5 STARS*****

The title of this book is perfection because even though I have a stone cold heart and rarely blubber at books, this one left me wrecked in it's own unique way even if it wasn't with tears. Sometimes we read that many books that within a month we forget what the ones we have already read, eager to dive into whats left on our TBR list. Not this one though, I think this will be one of those books that's etched on my mind for a long time to come. It was heartfelt and tragic but at the same time it inspired me by how strong the characters can be.

I'm not going to rehash the story. I went in blind and I think readers should do that more often. I knew it was a military romance and supposedly dark but after finishing I thought it was more about tragedy rather than darkness in a way.

The characters are well thought out and developed. Aden is extremely lovable but his issues are deep and you will want to wrap him in cotton wool. Sawyer has equal sadness in her life and the circumstances surrounding her were heartbreaking. There are some amazing quotes in this book especially from Aden and they will certainly leave their mark on readers.

“I don’t want to forget you”
He pulls his shirt off over his head, his wide muscular chest on display and tensing with anticipation. “I’ll make sure you never will … I’ll mark your fucking soul … The way you’ve marked mine.”
― J.B. Salsbury, Wrecked

Sometimes the hardest reviews to write are for the books we love the most because it takes a long time for our minds to halt on the afterthought process of events and this is one of those books for me so I urge everyone to give it a go. I didn't want the story to end and felt that towards that end it was slightly rushed, however maybe I am just being selfish because I wanted a longer epilogue for Sawyer and Aden and for their story to continue for longer. This was the first book I have read by JB Salsbury and I will definitely be looking at her backlog and looking forward to whats next.

Wrecked is the new standalone novel of deliciously dark, deeply emotional contemporary romance from J.B. Salsbury, the New York Times bestselling author of Split and The Fighting Series.

When you can’t trust yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?

It’s been months since Aden Colt left the Army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a boat off the California coast, he thought he’d found the perfect place to escape life.

Then Sawyer shows up, and turns his simple life upside down.

Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laidback beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can—including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk.

For Aden, the past doesn’t stay there; it shows up unexpectedly, uncontrollably, and doesn’t care whose life it wrecks.
