Review: Shadow Rider (Shadow #1) by Christine Feehan

*****5 Stars*****

Being a long time fan of Christine Feehan, I was excited when I found out she was beginning a new series. Shadow Rider gets that new series off to a fabulous start. It introduces us to an interesting and unique world that I think will be a great addition to the Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy genre.
Stefano Ferraro leads his family's businesses (the legal and illegal ones), finds himself splashed on the pages of gossip rags and amuses himself with fast cars and fast women. He also hides a secret, one that allows his family to dole out their own brand of justice in secret. The Farraro family are shadow riders - they have the ability to ride or hide within shadows to move from place to place invisibly. This allows them to protect the people of their neighborhood from the more dangerous and unwelcome segments of society.
Riders are almost predominantly male so Stefano is surprised when he stumbles onto Francesca, who shares the same ability. As soon as he recognizes that he feels a need to take her in and claim her as his. Francesca is hesitant because she has secrets of her own which she is running from and has trouble trusting people. Their chemistry jumped right off the pages of this book and the sexual tension was off the charts. I was captivated by their story and the wonderful world Feehan created from page one. This world is a dark and dangerous one filled with sexy alpha men (and a pretty kickass female) with dangerous and interesting supernatural abilities. I'm completely fascinated by this supernatural mob family! I'm excited to read each of the secondary characters' stories as the series progresses.
