Review: Backfire (Vigilantes #2) by Keri Lake

*****5 Stars*****

This is the second book in the Vigilantes series and although the first book, Ricochet, is great, it's not necessary to read book one before reading Backfire. However, it's still worth reading - it was a 5 star read.
Both books are set in the same place and the feel of the two books are similar. Set in a dystopian city, everyone is either involved in crime and poverty or simply struggling to survive.
I loved that this book was written from various POVs and although not a new idea, it really worked in this book.
There are quite a few characters to get to know, other that the H/h but as you immerse yourself more deeply in the story, it all pulls together perfectly.
Jase has had a hard life and it's almost impossible to imagine that things could get any worse - any darker - but they do.
Finally feeling the sun on his face and ridding himself of the chill that's penetrated deep into his bones, the last thing he expects or wants is a complication or distraction.
Lucy is making ends meet - just - but soon finds herself the witness to something she wishes she could burn from her memory. Now, rather than simply getting by, she's fighting for survival.
I loved both Jase and Lucy and the chemistry that sparks between them is undeniable. Lucy is feisty and stronger than she looks. Jase is revengeful but strong and dominant.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept me riveted, just waiting to see what would happen next. Who would survive and who would be eviscerated. There is no denying that this book is dark and fairly graphic in places and if this is the sort of book you enjoy, you're sure to love this one as much as I did.
I also loved Dax and cannot wait for his story, which I'm sure will be just as enthralling.

Dark Contemporary Romance coming June 9, 2016
This book is a standalone set in the same world as Ricochet.

No matter how unbreakable he may seem, every man has a weakness.

A year ago, my home became a bloodstained crime scene. That night marked the beginning of my hell—the same night I was tortured by my enemies and tossed into an underground prison to die.

They failed. I survived.

Now that I’m free, only one motive burns in my soul: revenge.

Lucky for me, they think Jase Hawkins is dead. Maybe I am. I’ve got nothing but a cold, merciless rage, and Black Betty, the sharp steel blade that never leaves my side.

Then she drifts into my life.

Lucia wants answers—so much so, she’s willing to fall into the darkness where my enemies lie in wait, to kill her for what she knows.

Or to take her for the depraved fantasies her body alone can rouse in a man’s mind.

Me? I want her for the fire in her touch that feeds my addiction, forces me to feel what has become numb, but my appetite for bloodshed runs deeper than flesh.

For my own sanity, I’ve vowed to stay away from her. Because she’s my only weakness, an obsession that leaves me craving more—one that could make even the most steadfast plan backfire.
