Review: Spiralling Skywards: Fading (Contradictions, #2) by Lesley Jones

*****5 Stars*****

Lesley Jones has once again broken me, this book left me a sobbing mess and that is purely down to the raw emotion of this book and which Lesley’s writing evokes. I love how I can always connect with something within the characters Lesley creates and Sarah has been no exception. The first book built us up and the rug pull I was expecting arrives in this second book but it is beautifully and tragically delivered by the author.
Fading sees Sarah and Liam starting off in married life with the rose-tinted glasses of most newlyweds, though Sarah still has her self-doubts. We follow the couple on a very real journey of the often harsh realities of married life and parenthood, and this story is so real you are with them every step of the way as this could easily be any one of us. The added pressure of Liam building his business leading to lots of travel leaves Sarah to cope with the pressures of a young family, and its unavoidable difficulties alone, and it was heart-breaking to read as she spiralled so much. There is nothing worse than to feel alone within a marriage and as a parent.
This book touched so many nerves for me and I for one can empathise with Sarah on so many levels, yes she made choices some may not like or agree with and if that is the case then they are the fortunate ones. However, so many women are in Sarah’s position and I admire Lesley for writing about the subject matters covered as they should be open for discussion and for women to be able to say they are struggling. I truly struggled to read this book as I had to keep putting it down to just cry for Sarah, for her situation, for the old me. Well Done Lesley for yet another raw and honest read.
I’m glad to see there will be more from this series and look forward to the next book.

From the outside looking in, Sarah and Liam’s bond has been unbreakable since the moment they first laid eyes on each other.
Love, romance, and friendship should form the ropes that tether them together.
But when old insecurities rise to the surface, Sarah loses sight of her self-worth and feels her identity fading. Faced with a choice that threatens to fray those ties, she finally begins to unravel.
Until one day, those ropes snap, that bond is broken, and their relationship sent spiralling off course.
