Review: Harlot by Victoria Dahl

****3.5 Stars****

This is a really quick short read and one that I enjoyed but would have liked a bit more meat to the story. It is a an historical western romance and I love a good corset busting read.
Poor Jessica has been ostracised by the townsfolk as a harlot and is living on a lonely ranch with a couple of other misfits and her guilt as company. As we learn Jessica's story and the manner in which she has been treated you can't help but feel angry for her. Then as Caleb returns and treats her in the same manner you cant help but feel sad and angry for them both. Caleb is hurt to find Jessica living the life she is rumoured to whilst he has been away working to save for a future together for them both but he doesn't really give Jessica a chance.
However much I wanted to smack Caleb for how he treats Jessica the agreement they come to leads to some quite hot scenes. My heart broke for Jessica all the more though each time and once I learnt of his double standards, though that was the way things were in those days, I wanted to shake Caleb.
I liked how the story played out in the end and I would have loved for this to just be a little longer.I haven't read anything by this author before but I will certainly be looking at her other work.

Their bargain strips them down to searing passion and naked vulnerability, and Jess can still glimpse her loving Caleb buried deep inside this rough cowboy. In the end, an unbearable truth emerges that could push them toward forgiveness…or could destroy their fragile bond forever.
