Holy crap! This book is one of the best vampire books I've ever read! I know Kristen Ashley is an amazing writer but previous to this I hadn't read anything paranormal from her so I was a bit dubious going in. I absolutely love paranormal romace but only if it's done really well, and Kristen Ashley did not let me down!
Leah Buchanan is from a reknowned family of concubines to vampires. Her family have been servicing vampires for generations and her family in particular has a reputation of being very successful in keeping their vampires....satisyfied, and for longer periods of time than these arrangements usually last. The book starts off with Leah attending her Selection, where she will be chosen by a vampire to become in service to for the next few years. Little does Leah know that one particular vampire has been waiting for Leah's Selection for year and he's determined to have her.
Lucien...sigh...he is one sexy vampire! He's very bossy, very alpha but every now and then he shows he has a sweet side. I fell hard for this bad ass vamp!
In a genre filled with vampire stories that can be similar Kristen Ashley succeeded in creating something totally original. I loved this story, it was exciting, gripping, at times sweet and other times funny and the characters, like all Kristen Ashley characters tend to be, we freaking awesome and totally loveable. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Im looking forwards to meeting the next couple!

Leah Buchanan’s family has been in service to vampires for five centuries. Even so, Leah wants nothing to do with her family’s legacy. But when she’s summoned to her Selection by the Vampire Dominion, under familial pressure, she has no choice but to go.

Lucien has been living under the strict edicts of the Vampire Dominion for centuries but he’s tired of these ancient laws stripping away everything that is the essence of the vampire.

So he’s taking it back.

And this is because Lucien has been watching and waiting for decades for Leah to become available for a Selection and he will not be limited with what he can do with her. He will have her, all of her.

Therefore, Lucien is going to tame Leah, even if he gets hunted and killed for doing it.

What neither Leah nor Lucien expects is the strong bond that will form between them, connecting them on unprecedented levels for mortals or immortals. And what will grow between them means they will challenge their ways of life and their union will begin The Prophesies which makes them one of three couples who will save humanity… or die in the effort.

What a freaking follow-up! This series is really shaping up to be amazing, it's certainly got me totally hooked!
In this second installment in The Three series we meet the next couple in the sacred triumvirate. Callum is the king of the werewolves, he's centuries old and unlike Lucian he knows about the prophecies. He also knows about his destined mate and has known about her for some time. He has had eyes on her for years, keeping her safe until the time to claim her is right. Only she knows nothing about him, or the supernatural world.
Sonia is a bit of a loner, an orphan who finds it difficult to maintain friendships as she has these abilities that she keeps hidden. Sh can't allow anyone to get too close to her lest they find out about her secrect abilities.
Sonia and Callum together are freaking explosive! Things get a bit frustrating at times because Sonia doesn't trust easily and struggles to share her thoughts and emotions, and Callum is a typical dude, amplified by his being a different species to her, doesn't pick up on the subtle nuances of a p*ssed off woman.
I loved the new characters we are introduced to in this book, we see the otherside of the paranormal world, and I don't just mean Callum and Sonia, I mean all of Callum's wolves. Ryon especially, I reeeeally liked Ryon!
There's a few twists and turns in this story and a bit of a shocker near the end, it nearly had me crying at some parts! I adore this series and I can't wait to get stuck into the third and final installment. Although I imagine it'll be bittersweet, I'll be sad to see the end of this series and let these characters go.

One night, Callum is driven into the woods by instinct, an instinct to protect. In the form of wolf, he meets a young human child who he is instantly drawn to in a fierce way he doesn’t quite understand.

Sonia Arlington has lived a lonely life. She has certain abilities that make her strange and she has a rare disease that, if untreated, could kill her. Her father makes her vow that she will never let others discover her abilities. This forces Sonia to stay distant, always guarding against exposure.

Intelligence leaks that Sonia is Callum’s human mate. He is now King of the Werewolves and has war on his hands. He’s forced to claim his mate and integrate Sonia into a world that is strange and frightening.

As Sonia attempts to adjust, Callum attempts to cope with the knowledge that his mate is mortal. He will have her beauty and gentleness only the length of a mortal life making their union unbearably bitter even as Sonia makes it unbelievably sweet.

Wild and Free (The Three #3) by Kristen Ashley

What a conclusion to the series! This has turned out to be one of the best paranormal series I've read. I adore Kristen Ashley's writing style, it's very sort of conversational so it made me feel like I knew the characters well and I became so invested in them and what happens to them. Her writing style makes for such an easy read in that it sucks you in and before you know it you're half-way through and are not able to put it down.
In this third and final installment in The Three series we meet the hybrid Abel, half vampire, half werewolf, he has no idea that there's others like him in the world. In all his years he's never come across another supernatural creature and he's been left to figure things out for himself. Abel is a very down to earth character, there's no airs and graces, he's very rugged and rough, he says it how it is and he certainly has a way with words! He is one dirty mouthed werewolf vampire! Because of his down to earth nature he's a very easy charcter to connect to, and even though he's not overly emotional himself he still brings out the emotions and empathy of the reader.
We also meet Lilah, Abel's destined mate. She's human and has no idea of the supernatural world, however when she finds out about it she handles it like a true hardcore biker chick. She's not a weak heroine that needs coddling, she handles everything instride, she's one kicka$$ b*tch!
As well as meeting the third and last part of the sacred triumvirate we also see the whole story come together. So Leah and Lucien and Sonia and Callum play a big part in this story also, so we get to ease the withdrawel symptoms from their stories. There's so much going on with this book with everything coming together at the end, no cliff-hangers thank god! The series is complete with this book but I'd love another book, a kind of epilogue for the different characters. I want to see them a few years down the line from the ending of this book, I just can't let go of them! I need more!
I highly recommend this book to all lovers of the paranormal genre but also to anyone who hasn't tried the genre yet, this being Kristen Ashley you can be safe in the knowledge that she writes a bloody good book and the characters and the relationships between the characters are such that I think even those who have written off the paranormal genre could very much enjoy this series.
