Review: A Glimpse of the Dream by by L.A. Fiore

****4 Stars****

We meet Teagan Harper as a young child that is brought to live at a strange imposing house of a distant family friend following the untimely death of her parents. Raven's Peak is a quirky place filled with some great but quirky characters where Teagan meets the young Kane Doyle. We see their innocent childhood friendship grow into a blossoming romance that looks to be set to stand the test of time but can it survive Teagan going away to university?
Teagan's life is thrown a curveball when Kane suddenly removes himself from her life and you share her frustration at never understanding what caused this sudden turn in events. My heart broke for her when a trip back to Raven's Peak for her graduation party leaves Teagan feeling like a stranger in her childhood home and she discovers Kane living what was their dream with another woman.
Teagan gets on with her life in a detached manner until she is called home by her adoptive mother with the promise of the answers she has spent the past 9 years wanting but life throws a curveball and it seems those answers may once again evade her. Teagan spends her time getting reacquainted with Raven's Peak and gradually picks up that things are not what they seem so she begins to look further into the bigger picture and finds an answer she could not have imagined.
Poor Kane he thought he was sacrificing his own happiness to give Teagan a chance at a better life and spends his living in misery, not realising that is exactly how Teagan has been living. Though for a while I really wanted to kill him. Once Teagan realises the truth of the situation she fights for the life and dream she hoped for but they are both very different people now, can they really fulfil their dream? Just as you think they may just do, Kane has doubts and poor Teagan is left to pick up the pieces again but with much more to lose now. Kane has finally realised that he has let life pass by and he has to find himself to be able to realise his dream with Teagan but will she forgive his rejection again?
I really enjoyed this book, a story of first loves being forced apart by circumstances, that find they way back to each other but can their love stand the test of time and the trials of their adult lives. I was a little uncomfortable with some of Teagan's thoughts at such a young age though early on in the book and actually went back to check I hadn't missed an age jump other than that it is a great read that is cleverly played out as I honestly didn't get Kane's problem until it was revealed then it was a big "oh of course moment".

Teagan Harper is barely ten years old when she finds herself orphaned and sent away to live at Raven’s Peak, a Gothic estate on the seaside cliffs of Maine. Soon, though, her heartache and loneliness are tempered by a blossoming friendship with the only other child living at Raven’s Peak: Kane Doyle, only two years older than Teagan and abandoned by his mother. Over the years, the pair grows inseparable. First they’re pranksters and confidants, but eventually their feelings change, and best friends turn into soul mates. On the cusp of Teagan’s departure for a university in Boston, they share a glimpse into their happily-ever-after and make promises of forever.

But Teagan and Kane’s engagement and dreams of the future are shattered when Teagan returns home to find Kane gone from Raven’s Peak—and living with someone new. Devastated and heartbroken, Teagan cuts ties with her beloved adoptive home and tries to move on with her life. But years later, when the shocking truth behind Kane’s betrayal comes to light, Teagan must decide whether to embrace her new life and let go of her past once and for all, or fight for her dream life with the only man she’s ever wanted.
