Review: Neighbor Dearest by Penelope Ward

*****5 Stars*****

Stepbrother Dearest, for me was hands down the best Stepbrother Romance EVER. So many came close but I don't believe anyone topped it, in my opinion. So to say I was a little bit excited when this little beauty landed on my kindle was an understatement.
This is the story of Chelsea Jameson and Damien Hennessey. You may or may not remember Chelsea from Stepbrother Dearest (SD) and whilst Neighbor Dearest is being labelled as a standalone, I do strongly recommend readers read SD first.
At first it totally slipped my mind that Chelsea had appeared before, but once I did realise then this book took on an entirely new feel for me. I mean, I loved it from the start, but having a character who we've met before makes it all the better. For instance certain things with Chelsea I was already familiar with, such as a break-up with her Ex, Elec. This book allowed me to sympathise more with her and completely absorb myself in her character.
Now as for Damien, he was just perfect. From the moment he appeared as the completely mean and moody, artistic neighbour I was smitten. The cover also kind of helped with my visualisation of him and let me say what a nice cover it is. There were a great many layers to Damien that made him so three dimensional. One thing in particular about him was incredibly familiar to me, it is definitely something I can completely relate to, but sadly I cannot mention what as it would give away a major plotline, but can I say that Penelope had either done her research or like me, it is something she has encountered in real life.
Unlike SD where it wasn't clear as to any future books, I have to say I am excited for what Penelope will be gifting us with in the future and let me tell you the chemistry will be just as good, if not better than any of her books so far.
Having been in a bit of a book funk on and off for quite some time, this book was a complete breath of fresh air. I went from finding it a chore to pick up a book and read for a great length of time, to this where it was virtually impossible for me to put it down. The chemistry and emotion in this book was second to none. I don't even know why I'm surprised at this, because Ms Ward seems to just have the midas touch as far as her books are concerned.
Ultimately another first class read from a truly talented author.

A STANDALONE NOVEL that does *not* need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

From
New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a friends to lovers story with sexy new characters.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.

He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.
