Review: Dark Instincts (The Phoenix Pack #4) by Suzanne Wright

*****5 Stars*****

Suzanne Wright brings her A-game each and every time she writes a book which is what makes her Phoenix Pack series so endlessly enjoyable. I can honestly say that each and every book in this series is unique and well written. This book is no different. Dark Instincts is a study in opposites. Roni and Marcus are not your traditional hero and heroine. Even though Marcus is a rough and tough enforcer, Roni doesn’t need a hero to save her. She’s been through a lot of hardship and has come through it tough as nails. I love the sarcastic and strong exterior that puts up but underneath it all she is infinitely loyal and caring to her pack and family. She’s always considered herself self sufficient and solitary until she meets Marcus and feels comfortable enough to share her load and also carry some of his. Marcus has a reputation as an incurable playboy but he’s met his match in Roni. Like Roni his carefree blasé attitude hides inner turmoil. The best thing about Marcus is that he’s so secure about himself that he isn’t threatened by Roni’s strength and aggression….in fact he’s turned on by it. At times he seems like the only person who can see the real Roni that even her family doesn’t understand. The chemistry between these two exists on multiple levels, they have similar sense of humor, shared a dedication to loyalty, and a scorching sexual chemistry (its fun to watch them struggle for dominance in the sack). Like all the past Phoenix Pack books this one is chock full of action and plot twists. It almost reads like a mystery thriller with romantic elements…really really hot romantic elements. This book is definitely another gem in Suzanne Wright’s crown.

Blurb

It happens whenever wolf shifter Roni Axton is near Marcus Fuller: a crackle of sexual awareness that’s intoxicating…and deeply annoying. Marcus is a pack enforcer who oozes power, but Roni is lethal in her own right—nothing like the flirty females who flock around him. Even still, his possessive gaze makes one thing clear. Marcus has singled her out for seduction, and he wants to make her sit up and beg.

No matter how aloof and unfazed Roni acts, Marcus can tell she wants him. When a brutal attack by a jackal pack forces them to work together, it’s the perfect opportunity for Marcus to chip away at her defenses—until he falls into his own trap, completely unprepared for the intensity of their connection. Roni is the only one who’s ever seen past his shifter charm and discovered the man hiding beneath it. And for Marcus, claiming Roni once will mean needing her forever.
