Review: Tortured by Nicole Williams

*****5 Stars*****

Brecken Connolly and Camryn Gardner become soul mates at a very young age and their love is plain for all to see. Camryn is heartbroken though as Brecken who is a couple of years older is about to leave for a year to fight overseas in the military but he promises her the world and says they will get married when he gets back. Things don't go as planned though, a horrific turn of events changes everything, shattering Camryn's heart into a million pieces. Roll on 6 years and Camryn has tried to move on but then a miracle happens, Brecken is found alive and returns home to find Camryn married to his friend Crew which shatters his heart but he tries not to show it because 6 years is a long time to expect her to wait. All is not what is seems though and Brecken works out quite quickly that Camryn is putting on a brave face. Can they save each other from their demons and nightmares and find each other again?

The small negative in this book was that it was slightly predictable for me from the onset, however that didn't take away the love I had for this book. I was mesmerised and just had to keep on turning the pages until it said The End. You get everything in this story, love, heartbreak, joy, sadness, bravery, then there's tears, snot, the lot! I loved Brecken and whilst reading his story my heart broke then he put it back together again. I think my favourite quote was when Brecken said - ”I never asked to be the world’s hero. All I ever wanted was to be yours.” - well I just had no words I wanted to wrap him in cotton wool, squeeze him tight and never let go again. There are very lovable characters in this story but there's also a few you will want to throat punch but you need to get in line behind me.

Sighhhhhhhh Nicole what have you done to me, you're making a habit of squeezing my tear ducts dry. This book is definitely worth a read and is in the top 3 of my Nicole Williams collection.

When he left for a twelve-month deployment, she knew it would feel like forever before they saw each other again. She didn’t realise how right she was.

When Lance Corporal Brecken Connolly gets taken as a POW, Camryn hopes for the best but steels herself for the worst. In the end, steel was what she needed to survive when he didn’t. She moves on the only way she knows how—gilding herself in more steel.

Years go by.
She builds a new life.
She leaves the old one behind.

Until one day, she sees the face of a ghost on the news. Brecken seems to have risen from the dead, but she knows she can’t perform the same miracle for herself. While Brecken was held in a torture camp for the past five years, she’s been trapped in her own kind of prison. One she can't be saved from.

The man she mourned comes back to join the living, but the girl he wanted to spend his life with isn’t the same woman he comes back for. Brecken isn’t the same person either. The past five years have changed them both. While he’s determined to put the pieces back together, she’s resolved to let hers rot where they shattered.

Broken or not, Brecken wants her back. He’ll do anything to achieve that. Even if it means going against the warden of Camryn’s personal prison—her husband.
