Review: Cursed by Ice (Immortal Brothers #2) by Jacquelyn Frank

*****5 Stars*****

I didn’t think that the Immortal Brothers series could get any better but I’m happy to say that I was wrong! Jacquelyn Frank delivers another great book. I think every reader will find something in the main characters to identify with; both the mains are so complex and compelling. This is a real underdog story that will have you routing for Garreth and Sarielle right from the very beginning. In this second book the author expands and fleshes out the new world she created in Cursed by Fire. You begin to see different mystical animals and also different societies and cultures that exist within the world. Frank delivers her usual brand of descriptive and though provoking writing. Garreth, is the next of our intrepid group of brothers that have been cursed by the gods for reaching too high. He was released from his torment to conquer cities in Weysa’s name but he was not released from his curse that condemned him to freeze every night. Garreth is different from his brothers, I compare him to a Paladin. Always fighting the good fight and protecting the weak. Fairness and justice are very important to him. He meets Sarielle, a slave in the city that Garreth wants to conquer. Sarielle is different than most slaves because she is bonded to a wyvern, a powerful mystical creature. All her life Sarielle has been told she was nothing but a slave and her every move was dictated for her. Garreth is the first person who sees her as an equal and believes she can do great things. At first she’s distrusts his motives because her previous master threatened her family to keep her in his service and she fears that Garreth is the same. Sarielle is so strong and yet she has moments of fear and doubt that make her a very multidimensional character. The chemistry between these two is amazing; at one point it almost gave me the vapors! These two really burn it up! But also they have an interesting tenderness between them that really tugs at the heartstrings. I can’t recommend this book enough.

As punishment for plotting with his brothers to steal immortality, Garreth is suffering a freezing torment until the end of time. Again and again, his fierce fighter’s physique is frozen into a chiseled ice sculpture, his heart hardening like a diamond in his chest—only to thaw and resume the chilling torture. Until, like his older brother Dethan, he is offered a reprieve from a goddess—in exchange for his allegiance in a celestial civil war.
Garreth lives to fight and fights to live. But while laying siege to an embattled city, he finds another reason to go on—a beautiful warrior woman named Sarielle, who commands a mythic beast through a mysterious and powerful bond. Terrified of her strength, the city rulers have kept her captive, and now she refuses to submit to a new master. As Garreth seeks to unleash her passion and melt the icy resistance of her heart, will he become her ultimate salvation—or lead them both to greater destruction?
