Review: Some Girls Do by Clodagh Murphy

*****5 Stars*****

What a great fun read this book was, it had me laughing out loud for the most part, even to the point of waking up my hubby while reading it in bed. A quite down to earth read with great characters, such as Claire’s friend that runs a Mum's advice blog even though she has no children, that are well developed, set in Dublin which is a great favourite for a book setting for me.
Claire has got herself into quite a predica
ment through her online blog bragging of her sexual exploits with men that are pure fantasy and indulging in an online public Twitter flirt fest under her pseudonym of NiceGirl with Mark a London-based publisher. Each chapter opens with a delivery from her blog which are all hilarious far fetched stories. When Mark tells her he is coming to Dublin to meet her with a book offer and makes it clear he also wants to take the online flirting further Claire goes into a panic as she actually has almost no sexual experience.
She turns to Luca, a struggling artist she has only recently met to help teach her to live up to Mark’s expectations of NiceGirl. Luca is an emotionally cut off figure that Claire has misconceived opinions of as him being a bit of a manwhore. And the story the author chose for Luca is heartbreaking and original, I honestly cannot recall reading of anything similar.
What ensues is a mix of funny situations between the two as we along with Claire discover the complexity of Luca and his life that bring some of the balance to this story. I loved Luca and at times I just wanted to hug him as his story came to light. Both Claire and Luca are determined they can keep to the arrangement between them without emotions getting in the way because Claire is only doing this all for Mark anyway right. But things are never that simple, can they really embark on a sexual relationship and remain detached?
A brilliant read and my first by this author that I will definitely be reading more from.

Synopsis

Claire Kennedy is NiceGirl, the anonymous author of steamy online blog 'Scenes of a Sexual Nature'. An internet sensation, she attracts the attention of Mark Bell, a hot London publisher. But when it becomes clear that Mark is interested in more than just a book deal, Claire has to act fast. Because little does Mark know that NiceGirl is a lot more experienced in the bedroom than real-life Claire Kennedy.

Mark is offering Claire the life she's always dreamed of - a steady relationship, the literary world of London and a posh Highgate apartment.

But when Claire hires the services of struggling artist and commitment-phobe Luca to brush up on her sex skills, things get more complicated...

Great sex, friendship AND love ... can't a girl have it all?
