Review: Midtown Masters (Sins in the City #3) by Cara McKenna

I love Cara McKenna and have greatly enjoyed her Sins in the City series. Reading Midtown Masters was a bit bitter sweet because it is the last book in that series and I am sad to see it end. This series has been all about exploring menage relationships in their different incarnations. McKenna always manages to pile on the smut (she writes some of my most favorite erotic works), while having well fleshed out characters, relationships you become firmly vested in and situations that make you think and question your preconceived notions..

Suzy (Soo-jn) and Meyer CAM together. The money is good and they have fun entertaining their clients with their sizzling on video chemistry. Offline, their relationship feels more like one of close friends than lovers. One particular client, Lindsay (who's first name is John, but the fact he is first introduced by his last name leads to Suzy and Meyer making a mistaken assumption about his gender) begins to captivate Suzy. She is intrigued by his romantic requests and Meyer is concerned about her growing interest.

This was such a unique read. We only really experience these three characters through their interactions with each others. Adding John to the mix made everything so much more emotional and interesting. Plus, there is no denying how hot all of the sex scenes were. McKenna is one of my favorite erotic writers for a reason! I'm not quite sure which of the three books in this series I liked best, but Midtown Masters is definitely toward the top of the list. I also enjoyed the CAM plot line and the mistaken identity since it kept things fresh and interesting.

Review: Unexpectedly Hers (Sterling Canyon #3) by Jamie Beck

This is the third book in the Sterling Canyon series and while I enjoyed it, I didn't exactly love it like I loved the other books in the series. I found this one to be quite slow going and didn't hold my attention how I want a book to. To be honest, I skimmed through some of it because I found it to be very repetitive. The characters seemed to have the same arguments over and over again which I found to be quite annoying.

Shy and quiet Emma Duffy helps run her family's bed-and-breakfast but at night she secretly writes erotic romance hot enough to melt the snow in the Colorado town she lives in. Emma's double life is put to the test when her mother books the whole inn to a professional snowboarder, Wyatt Lawson. The same man that Emma has a lurid one night stand with that became the inspiration for her novel and the sexy as sin hero. He doesn't seem to remember her and she hopes he never will.

When Wyatt arrives in Sterling Canyon, his main focus is to start training to get back on the snowboarding circuit after he had to take a hiatus when his brother suffered a life altering brain injury in competition. The last thing he expects is to fall for a girl, especially one that is not his usual type. But unlike his usual types, Emma isn't using him...until Emma's pen name and novel come to light. Wyatt can withstand a tumble or two from his athletic training, but how will his heart survive the crash and burn of his relationship with Emma?

I absolutely Wyatt and his brother Ryder. I felt for Ryder and all the struggles he went through on a daily basis with his traumatic brain injury (TBI). The author really did her research on TBIs because the mood swings, light sensitivities and attitude changes from before the accident to after fit his diagnosis to a T. The thing that really bothered me about this book was the fact that Emma based her life around her mother and was afraid to really do anything and really be herself for fear that her mother would disown her or something. I found Emma's character to be really weak throughout the course of this book and she gave off a very different vibe than what I got from being introduced to her in books 1 & 2 in the series. Other than that, the book was filled with angst and passion and emotion and I actually quite enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Review: Damage Control (Dirty Money #2) by Lisa Renee Jones

This is quite a tricky review to write. I thoroughly enjoyed book #1, Hard Rules. It's a gripping story filled with murky secrets and great characters.

Although I did enjoy this book, somehow it felt like a filler to me. I think that there was so much left unsaid in the first book that as a result the second is crammed with information. Lots is revealed - although not everything - and it kind of lost me a little. It became so plot driven, that I lost that feeling of connection to the characters.

That being said, the characters are great and seem to evolve as the story moves forward. Shane is as protective as ever and there's so much hanging in the balance that it still kept me hooked.

I'm really looking forward to book #3 and highly recommend both Hard Rules and Damage Control.
