~Synopsis~

From the NYT bestselling author of the Fixed Trilogy...
I wasn’t supposed to be working the night I met JC.
...
Before him, I’d been content with the daily grind, managing one of NYC’s top nightclubs. So what if my life didn’t have a happily ever after? I didn’t believe in that anyway.
Then JC showed up.
Sexy, rich and smooth-talking, JC is nothing more than a distraction. I’m not interested in a night-in-shining latex so it’s easy to push the playboy away. Or it is until my life spins unexpectedly out-of-control. Then he’s there for me, offering a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires that requires me to abandon my constant need for control.
His no-strings-attached lessons obliterate my carefully built walls. And as I discover freedom, I start to feel things for him that I shouldn’t. Things that make me fear for my newly vulnerable heart. Because JC has secrets of his own, and his secrets don’t want to set him free.
BOOK ONE OF TWO. This series can be read alone or with the Fixed Trilogy.

Review: Slow Grind (Men of Mornington #1) by Eva Spencer

***3 Stars***

I am the biggest fan of Missy Johnson so when I saw that she was teaming up with Ashley Suzanne as Eva Spencer I jumped at the chance to read this. Slow Grind ended up being one of those books where I didn't exactly love it but I didn't exactly hate it either. I definitely saw the potential but I feel like there was too much unnecessary drama that detracted from the overall story.
While this book is considered a romance, the main emphasis is on the deep bonds between friends. Eva Spencer presents a story of a group of guys who will do anything to help their friend Max get the best treatment for his cancer, even going so far as stripping for a cure, with the help of their friend's younger sister, Aubrey. While teaching them to be the next Magic Mikes of Australia, the sparks start flying between Andrew and his best friend's little sister, Aubrey.
You are also introduced to a plethora of supporting characters like Nash, Cam, and Sam who all take part in stripping for Max's cure, as well as Emma who is supposedly Aubrey's BFF even though they haven't really spoken in the past decade. Then we have Jacey, the new BFF, who shows up at the end, as well as the desperate ex, Nate, just in time for the big cliffhanger.
While I liked the premise of the book, I felt like the book fell flat when it came to character development and the details. I didn't really find myself connecting to the characters all that much. I felt that Max's illness and the guys stripping for a cure took a backseat to all the unnecessary drama that the authors decided to throw in such as the horny mother, the desperate ex, the sex starved neighbor and the total lack of communication between Andrew and Aubrey. The authors seemed to jump around a lot and the book didn't really seem to naturally flow. It was a very busy drama filled book that seemed to lack the flow and connections I needed to feel.
On that note, Slow Grind does end on a cliffhanger in more ways than one. Although I struggled with this book and didn't exactly love it I would definitely read the next book in the series just to see what happens with the storyline.

Review: Trinity by M. Never

****4 Stars****

If you're looking for a super quick, easy, steamy read, this is definitely the book for you!
M Never takes you on a journey that's sure to keep you from putting it down. The writing is true to the author's style - well written and full of emotion.
I'm not going to give anything about the story away, other than to say that you'll love the main characters (I have my favourite) and that the story itself is fast paced, because it would be so easy to spoil it for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and finished it within a couple of hours. A perfect book for beside the pool this summer - if you can keep from blushing in public!

Review: Under Your Skin by Shannyn Schroeder

***3 Stars***

Norah comes home for the first time in 10 years since her Mothers death. Her Dad and Brothers sent her off to her aunts to live as they weren't sure they could protect her from all that's bad in the world. However her aunt didn't get that job right either since Norah comes home 7 months pregnant and her Aunt kicks her out. Norah hasn't told the baby's father yet and shes stuck in a rutt with no job and no money to pay for her fee's if she continues her nursing degree after the baby is born. The baby situation isn't all straight forward though because the Father was more of a f*** buddy rather than a boyfriend so Nora doesn't even love him and she has doubts about going it alone.
Norah's brother Tommy works in a tattoo store and this is where she meets Kai the owner of the shop and it's a bit of a mutual attraction. Kai is a bit of a closed book with a bit of a bad boy past, he doesn't know what he wants in life so tends to separate parts of his life from the real world. After Kai hires Norah to look after his Mum following her hip surgery he can't ignore the attraction that's brewing between them. Can Norah and Kai come together and work it out?
I kinda felt agitated whilst reading this and I hated feeling so because I loved this story line and it has great potential. The first 20% of the book was so confusing in terms of to many characters speaking and being introduced at once kind of thing. POV is a killer for me when it's not split into chapters and the first 20% there was several character switches on the same pages which made it very confusing as to who's pov it was. The author has repeatedly through this book switched POV in the space of a paragraph with no warning. Although wasn't so bad after 20% as we mostly had it switching between Norah and Kai which was easier to work out, however I think it could have been better executed if it had been split by chapter POV.
The ending was really abrupt as well so I would liked to have saw some sort of epilogue or longer ending since I noticed the next book is a different character. I gave this 3 stars because I did love the story though and Norah and Kai are both lovable characters.

Blood Is Thicker Than Ink. . .

Norah O'Malley has been alone for a long time. It's been ten years since her father and four brothers shipped her off to be raised by her aunt. Seven months since she's seen the guy who got her pregnant--who still doesn't know. And it's two weeks since she came home to Chicago and discovered none of her family wants to talk--or listen.

She never expected to walk into a tattoo shop seven months pregnant and get her socks knocked off by instant attraction. She can't even see her socks. But Kai Ellis is big and gruff and sexy as hell, and if he has a past, well, so does she. Even more, Kai knows how to listen so that Norah feels just a little less alone . . .

All the chemistry in the world can't help Norah make her decisions. And no sizzle of desire will make Kai believe in happy endings. But a little time with someone who understands might just change everything . . .

Review: Chaos Bound (Sinner's Tribe Motorcycle Club #4) by Sarah Castille

*****5 Stars*****

In this fourth installment we see what became of T-Rex after he was taken by Viper, the sadistic president of the rival Black Jacks MC, at the end of book 3. T-Rex has been held in Viper's dungeon for 3 months, he's been beaten and tortured daily and is on death's door when one day, a woman is thrown into the basement where he's being kept chained up.
Naiya found herself back in Viper's clutches when her druggie mother passed away. Her mother was Viper's own club wh*re, and now he's after Naiya to take her place. Together T-Rex, a.k.a Holt, and Naiya manage to escape Viper's dungeon by the skin of their teeth but the Black Jacks are hot on their tails.
I found myself really emotionally invested in Holt, he brought out all the feels in me and my heart broke for him at times to see the damaged caused by what he went through in that torture basement. His friendship with Tank was something special and to see how that was affected was a shot to the heart.
This book is just as well-written and action-packed as the others in the series. I highly recommend this series to fans of biker books, it's one that I don't think gets enough recognition but it's as good as the likes of Bella Jewel's or Joanna Wylde's MC series in my opinion. These books are dark and gritty and tell tales of the violence and horrors that can come with outlaw MC's, but they're also about love, loyalty and brotherhood.
I highly recommend this series, but make sure you read the books in order.

Review: Dark Mafia Prince (Dark Mafia Prince #1) by Annika Martin

*****4.5 Stars*****

I love a good gangster/Mafia story and this one was no different. I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting. From start to finish, this book had me hooked.
This is the first book in a series, which i believe is made up of three books, each focusing on one of three mafia guys and their love interests.
It is in the this book where Aleksio is back to reclaim his rightful place as leader of the Albanian American Mafia, together with his brother Viktor after they and their other brother, Kiro were separated, following the death of their parents. Everyone thought the brothers died too. That is until now.
Here's where it took me some time to get my head around things, as the only mafia I was familiar with was the Italian variety and to a degree the russian mafia. However I quickly got to grips with what was going on and who was who and once that happened, boy was this an exciting read.
Aleksio was, on the surface, a hard as nails, do anything to get the job done kind of guy who happened to rock an Armani suit. That is until he is reunited with Mira, the daughter of one of his biggest rivals.
I absolutely loved Mira's positive attitude and with a little bit of that fieriness, it made it hard for Aleksio to resist her. She was his light when all he saw was dark.
For me their was just the right amount of grit, sex and violence, especially as I don't think I was in the right frame of mind to read anything more graphic at this moment in time. But that's not to say that this was a light fluffy read in any way, shape or form. Although I have to say I have read books of a similar type which were far more liberal with the brutality, but this book definitely had a good balance, making it an easy read for me and together with brilliant characters and an amazing storyline I have to say I am really looking forward to finding out where this series leads.

I’m the most dangerous enemy you’ll ever have because every time you look at me, you see somebody good. That friend who died.
And when you look at me like that, I die again.

I spent years making myself invisible.
A good girl, apart from the noise.
Then you came back, beautiful and deadly in your Armani suit.

Don’t look at me like you still know me, you say.

But I remember your smile and those sunny days.

Review: Shadow Rider (Shadow #1) by Christine Feehan

*****5 Stars*****

Being a long time fan of Christine Feehan, I was excited when I found out she was beginning a new series. Shadow Rider gets that new series off to a fabulous start. It introduces us to an interesting and unique world that I think will be a great addition to the Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy genre.
Stefano Ferraro leads his family's businesses (the legal and illegal ones), finds himself splashed on the pages of gossip rags and amuses himself with fast cars and fast women. He also hides a secret, one that allows his family to dole out their own brand of justice in secret. The Farraro family are shadow riders - they have the ability to ride or hide within shadows to move from place to place invisibly. This allows them to protect the people of their neighborhood from the more dangerous and unwelcome segments of society.
Riders are almost predominantly male so Stefano is surprised when he stumbles onto Francesca, who shares the same ability. As soon as he recognizes that he feels a need to take her in and claim her as his. Francesca is hesitant because she has secrets of her own which she is running from and has trouble trusting people. Their chemistry jumped right off the pages of this book and the sexual tension was off the charts. I was captivated by their story and the wonderful world Feehan created from page one. This world is a dark and dangerous one filled with sexy alpha men (and a pretty kickass female) with dangerous and interesting supernatural abilities. I'm completely fascinated by this supernatural mob family! I'm excited to read each of the secondary characters' stories as the series progresses.

Review: Secretly Hers (Sterling Canyon #2) by Jamie Beck

*****4.5 Stars*****

Ever since reading book one in the series, Accidentally Hers, I've been curious to know more about the elusive manwhore, Trip Lexington. I knew their must be more to the story about why he was such a player and I was right. In this book, we learn that Trip has a vulnerable sweet side and Jamie Beck did an amazing job with Trip's backstory and the reasons why he has such a careless demeanor. I loved Trip in the first book but I loved him even more after his sweet vulnerable side is revealed. He tries to hide this secret side of him, but Kelsey sees the real him. There are many different facets of this book - family drama, great friendships, and most importantly, romance.
For reasons in his past, Trip is known as the ultimate manwhore and doesn't believe in marriage and settling down. Kelsey is the complete opposite. She is ready for the whole package: marriage, the 2.5 kids and the white picket fence. At times she comes off as completely desperate so when Trip strikes up a deal with her she jumps on it. They start up a friends with benefits relationship and in exchange Trip will give her the perfect tips to land herself a husband. But when Kelsey calls it quits after meeting a man she thinks could share her dreams of marriage and kids and the man happens to be Trip's estranged half brother he has to figure out if the feelings he has are due to sibling rivalry or jealousy and love.
I loved this book and the only reason why it isn't receiving 5 stars is because it took me a little bit to actually get myself into it but once I did I could not put it down! I loved this series and I hope the author does a few more books for some of the side characters, like Kelsey's best friend Emma. I look forward to reading more from the author.

Review: SCARS by Jaimie Roberts

****3.5 Stars****

I was so excited to read this. I have been a fan of Jaimie Roberts for a while. Her ability to tell a story is what has me eagerly anticipating every book she releases.
The hot cover and synopsis of Scars is what grabbed my attention and the epilogue was so amazing and gave me such high hopes for the rest of the book.
It was clear from the beginning that Lily was a goody two-shoes type, who falls for her mysterious stalker and for the purpose of this review I shall call him Mr X. At first I didn't feel it plausible that a girl like Lily fall for someone like Mr X, but now I believe that it was more due to not being able to get into Lily's head. It also meant a huge portion of the book lost a lot of momentum and I do largely think that is down to the fact that Lily showed very little personality. Mr X's hidden identity, especially to Lily, was a major part of the story and the fact that we as readers were also kept from knowing too much about him, I felt it was more important that Lily's character had more in depth.
For me, Jaimie Roberts' books have always been about the great storylines and dare I say, hot sex? Scars had more of a young adult feel to it, although due to a particular scene I don't feel it could safely fall under this category. I felt a lot of what I love about Jaimie's books was missing, due to the very slow build up, although the feeling of suspense did remain strong throughout. I do have to say that some of the revelations were a little obvious, as I had worked such details out fairly early on.
Despite my misgivings with this book, I do have to commend Ms Roberts on her writing, as I felt the dialogue to be much more believable and natural compared to previous books.
As for the final moments, I wasn't quite made to believe some of the things that happened and if I'm honest it was at this point I felt the book to be rushed, which was a complete contrast to the earlier parts.
There was enough in this book to keep me glued to the pages, but sadly the pace of the book is what ultimately let it down for me.

Review: Hard Core by Tess Oliver

*****5 Stars*****

Well wasn't this another fine example of what Tess Oliver can do with her writing.
When 2 people come together to try find a new future we generally get the typical boy meets girl, falls in love blah blah but this isn't how Ledger and Jacy's story goes, it's a bit more complicated than that. Ledger has a troubled past and Jacy has a tragic past and both of them are still running from it. When Ledger moves into a rented run down beach house in a small beach town, naturally Jace wants to know who her new sexy tattooed neighbour is? So Jacy decides to introduce herself with some lovely muffins her friend baked and she even admits that to him! Ledger is ecstatic that Jacy has made introductions easy since he has been admiring Jacy from afar daily when she takes her dog a walk on the beach daily. Jacy doesn't know if she is ready to give her heart away again and is initially hesitant to take things further once they become acquainted. However there's a lot more to this story than you think and there is a bit of a large twist where slight hints are dropped along the way, but it still keeps you guessing as to what the heck is going on so you will just have to read to find out.
I love Tess Oliver's books. Tess has the ability to write a unique story subject every time she puts words on the page. This one is no different and flows really well where everything just slots in as it should be. The main characters are well developed with enough information to feel a connection to them. The side characters always have that little bit of story to tell as well which keeps the story from getting repetitive on the same subjects. Another job well done from the author.

Review: Backfire (Vigilantes #2) by Keri Lake

*****5 Stars*****

This is the second book in the Vigilantes series and although the first book, Ricochet, is great, it's not necessary to read book one before reading Backfire. However, it's still worth reading - it was a 5 star read.
Both books are set in the same place and the feel of the two books are similar. Set in a dystopian city, everyone is either involved in crime and poverty or simply struggling to survive.
I loved that this book was written from various POVs and although not a new idea, it really worked in this book.
There are quite a few characters to get to know, other that the H/h but as you immerse yourself more deeply in the story, it all pulls together perfectly.
Jase has had a hard life and it's almost impossible to imagine that things could get any worse - any darker - but they do.
Finally feeling the sun on his face and ridding himself of the chill that's penetrated deep into his bones, the last thing he expects or wants is a complication or distraction.
Lucy is making ends meet - just - but soon finds herself the witness to something she wishes she could burn from her memory. Now, rather than simply getting by, she's fighting for survival.
I loved both Jase and Lucy and the chemistry that sparks between them is undeniable. Lucy is feisty and stronger than she looks. Jase is revengeful but strong and dominant.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept me riveted, just waiting to see what would happen next. Who would survive and who would be eviscerated. There is no denying that this book is dark and fairly graphic in places and if this is the sort of book you enjoy, you're sure to love this one as much as I did.
I also loved Dax and cannot wait for his story, which I'm sure will be just as enthralling.

Review: Stained Glass Shards by Rosemary Rey

****4 Stars****

I'm actually pretty annoyed right now. If i didn't love my Kindle so much, I'd throw it on the floor and stamp all over it. This to me was not a love story in the conventional sense.
This is a book that I can only describe as a love triangle scenario. Basically we have one guy, Griffin who had held Elyce's heart for so long only to throw it away and then there's Ritter, her hot, doting, attentive lover. Now what has incensed me so much about this book is that it made me side with one guy over the other. We get in his head, understand his motives, see that he is in fact a great big jerk, but somewhere along the line you feel sorry for. Where as the other guy we know very little about and that prevented me from actually caring whether he got the girl or not. I'm not going to tell you who wins in the end, that's not what this is about, but I can tell you I'm not happy about the outcome, because neither deserved her in my eyes.
Elyce for much of this book was incredibly frustrating and never really developed as a character because she was so weak for much of it. Yes she'd had an image overhaul, but deep down she still harboured those same insecurities that made her engage in such an unhealthy relationship with Griffin.
Why the 4 stars, you may ask? Well deep down I know this book was well written and to evoke such strong emotions from me, even if it is anger has to be commended, so my utter fury at the outcome is mine alone. Also I couldn't put this book down. It was cleverly written, but I still feel strongly about the preferential treatment one guy got over the other and the fact that it could have more than likely been resolved had both guys been given a fair shot at telling their side.
Anyway, there you have it, a book that I liked, but didn't and definitely one the readers should make their own mind up about.
So go read it, if you dare *winks*
