Review: Je suis à toi (Monsters in the Dark #3.5) by Pepper Winters

*****5 Stars*****

If you're a lover of the darker reads, and if you haven't yet discovered Pepper Winter's Monsters In The Dark series, you are seriously missing out.
To enjoy this book to the fullest, you must have read the first three books in the series, Tears Of Tess (book #1), Quintessentially Q (book #2) and Twisted Together (book #3).
If you have already read these, there's no need to re-read as it'll all coming flooding back to you.
Right from the start, the tension in this book was palpable, making me afraid, making my heart stutter.
Q has always kept his inner self caged and subdued to the best of his ability (given its strength and ferocity) but with Tess he's able to unlock that cage. He's able to be free because she begs for it. She craves it.
Secrets are never a good thing and they threaten to pull Tess and Q apart if they can't find their way back to each other.
I absolutely loved this book. Not only did it cement how much I love Pepper Winters' work but also rekindled my love of Q, Tess and this evocative series.
It's beautifully written, emotive and heartfelt. It carries you along so effortlessly that you'll reach the end without even realising that you've made the journey with the characters so quickly. You'll lament the end, because you'll want more.
An absolutely fantastic book! One not to be missed. 5 glowing stars from me!

“Life taught me an eternal love will demand the worst sacrifices. A transcendent love will split your soul, cleaving you into pieces. A love this strong doesn’t grant you sweetness—it grants you pain. And in that pain is the greatest pleasure of all.”

Q made me the happiest esclave in the world. He gave me his heart, his empire, his ruthless unforgiving love. And life finally left us in peace.

A man like my maître has special needs though, growing stronger as our lives intertwine. The only way to survive his monster is to agree to all his desires.

Including his latest wish.

I’m his.

And I won’t refuse.

Review: Demand (Careless Whispers #2) by Lisa Renee Jones

*****5 Stars*****

This is the second book in the Careless Whispers series and I've been dying to get my hands on it! Book one, Denial, ends rather abruptly and there are plenty of questions left unanswered.
Demand is great. It fills in enough gaps to satisfy you while simultaneously leaving you intrigued enough to want more.
If you haven't read book #1, I highly recommend it - you also really need to have read it to pick up where it was left off.
If you have, you'll have met Kayden and his "Hawkish" ways. He's loyal, protective and honourable. Ella is still trying to find herself but now has support and passion...but does she have trust? Can they trust each other? Is one of them even mistrustful of themselves?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It's a quick, enjoyable read. Perfect for a summer holiday beside the pool. Now I need to wait for book #3, Surrender.

Review: Retribution by Natasha Knight

*****4.5 Stars*****

Adam's sister was kidnapped by human traffickers when he was a teenager. She somehow managed to escape, but couldn't deal with the memories of her torture and abuse and killed herself. Since that day, his life has been consumed with getting revenge. He doesn't want the man responsible to simply pay with his life, he wants him to feel the same pain and devastation he himself has felt all these years. To accomplish that goal, he decides to take away the one thing he holds dear, his daughter. Adam slowly insinuates himself into Elle's life. As she starts to fall for him, he prepares to break her and in the process, destroy her father. What he doesn't plan for is the conflicting emotions he will feel and the realization that achieving the retribution the has desired all this time may turn him into the very type of monster he has spent so long hating.
Retribution is the first book I have read by Natasha Knight and I was impressed by her storytelling ability. A revenge plot is not exactly new, but she managed to keep me gripped from the prologue and had enough plot twists to keep the story feeling fresh and different. This was a dark read, though not as dark as I expected going in. Certain scenes read like a train crash, you knew you should look away, but you just couldn't tear your eyes away from the devastation unfolding. Adam was a wonderful anti-hero. His hatred and need for revenge warped him, but you could tell he was still decent somewhere. That decency lead to him questioning his actions as the story progressed which made for interesting reading. My favourite moments were when we were inside his head.
Elle grew on me a little more slowly. At first she comes off as naive and overly pampered. I didn't believe that she didn't know who and what her father was, it was just so much easier to pretend nothing nefarious was at play than to question the money she was surrounded by. Her inner strength came out as the story progressed. She was inherently good and even as Adam's cruelty came to the forefront, she held onto a desire to see the best in him and sympathize with his inner pain. Their relationship was wrong, but felt oh so right and was oh so sexy in the best kind of twisted way. Even if I knew she should run as far from Adam as she could, I desperately wanted them to see their way through the pain, cruelty and devastation. If you like well written dark capture/revenge storylines Retribution should be immediately added to your to be read pile.

Adam

Payback’s a bitch — or it would be for Elle.

Fifteen years ago, my sister was kidnapped. For months, she’d endured hell. Somehow, she’d survived it. Someway, she’d escaped her captors. But it hadn’t mattered. In fact, it had been like losing her twice, because six weeks after she came home, she was dead, and the man responsible was alive and well, oblivious to her fate, ignorant to what he had coming.

Fifteen years I’d been waiting for this moment, all that time, planning, preparing, readying to put things into motion. To finally make the SOB pay for what he’d done.

Killing him was too easy. Too quick. No. There was a much better way to exact revenge.

Take what he loved best.

Break it.

Break her.

I just didn’t realize that in the process of destroying the girl, I’d destroy myself.

Elle

“I only want your pain.”

I hadn’t understood what those words meant, not really. Not until he made me understand.

I noticed Adam the very first day he moved into my building. He was a badass on a bike in a thousand-dollar suit. When he looked at me, it was with a hunger just this side of obscene.

Our meetings were strange, accidental. Too coincidental. There was something about Adam. Something I couldn’t put my finger on.

Something I couldn’t resist.

He told me I didn’t know him. He warned me to run as far from him as I could. He was moody. Dark. I’d found it romantic. I didn’t know, and I wouldn’t realize until it was too late that he’d meant for me to heed his warnings. That some part of him had hoped I would run, that I would escape him.

For too many years, vengeance had fueled him. It had taught him hate. The object of that hate? My father. And me? I was the means to my father’s end. Adam would destroy my father by destroying me.

I accused him of being a monster, of being no different than those who took his sister, but even in the harshest moments, all I could see in his eyes was pain. And like a fool, all I wanted was to touch that darkness.

To make it light.

Retribution is a full-length, complete Dark Romantic Suspense novel. No Cliffhanger. Intended for mature readers. Contains BDSM content.

Review: Hooker by J.L. Perry

****4 Stars****

I enjoyed this book and it is a lot more than what I was expecting from this story. It does have some darker elements to it, especially at the beginning, but is not too graphic in detail. From the beginning I was pulled into Jade’s story and enjoyed the twists along the way.
Jade is a great character, she has had an awful start in life and just when you thought things may be working out for her the person that should have had her best interests at heart betrays her in the worst way. Jade is made to work as a hooker of the high class kind and it is not a life she enjoys despite the luxurious trappings it comes with it. Despite this she has an innocent somewhat naive element to her character which is endearing though she is a lot stronger than you would expect.
Brock is just yummy; I wasn’t sure of him at first as he seemed the typical CEO type with the world at his feet and a privileged life but we soon learn that he has his own issues. He was just perfect for Jade and I loved that he struggled with his feelings for her but went all out to get her. I loved that even after hearing of Jade's vocation he still wanted to have more with her.
Jade and Brock’s story starts as a one night stand after a chance meeting but mainly revolves around the horrible world Jade had been dragged into and the fallout of the actions of M the madam that had her in her grip. It gave this book a great suspense edge to it though some solutions to what could have been quite intense situations fell a bit flat for me but then they may not have fit the story. There is a host of great characters in this book too, especially Rupert who my heart broke for, including some rather nasty ones that you want to do an injury.
Overall another great flawlessly written book from this author, who I always enjoy reading.

HOOKER - A heartbreakingly beautiful love story. One night of passion with a sinfully hot stranger will change everything ...

Jade

Jade’s young life was tough. After her mother died during childbirth and her father could no longer look after her, she was placed in foster care where she stayed for the next ten years. She grew up feeling unloved and unwanted as she was passed around from one screwed up home to the next.

Things began to look up for her when she was adopted by a wealthy socialite at the age of eleven. Sometimes though, things aren’t always what they seem. Jade didn’t know it at the time, but her new adoptive mother had big plans for her, and spent the next seven years grooming Jade for that role.

Jade learnt early in life that she couldn’t rely on anyone but herself. Instead of letting her circumstances beat her, she took all the negatives she’d been dealt, and used them to her advantage. She grew up to be a strong, successful, determined and independent woman. She was a loner by choice.

The only thing lacking in her life was companionship and love. She’d never experienced it, so she didn’t know what she was missing, until she had a one-night-stand with a handsome stranger. One night, that would change everything.

Brock

Brock grew up privileged. He had everything going for him. Money, looks, charm, success and an endless array of beautiful women. He wasn’t interested in commitment. To him women were easy. They practically threw themselves at his feet. All they wanted was to do something nobody had ever managed before. Snare the hot, rich bachelor.

Then he met Jade. She was like a breath of fresh air. A challenge. Nothing like the women he was used too. Their one night together ignited something within him. A burning desire to own her, possess her, but Jade had other plans. Nobody says no to Brock Weston, nobody.

He’s left wondering about a woman he knows he can never have. But, when fate brings them together again, will he get what he wants? Will he be able to claim the unattainable? Or will her secrets crush him, and destroy any chance they have of being together?

Review: Wanted (A Monster Billionaire Romance) by Jani Kay & Normandie Alleman

***3 Stars***

This is a hard review to write!!
The idea and the plot of this book is great, but for some reason I just could not connect. I've spent a while considering whether that was just me or not, and I'm still not sure.
The main issue I think I had was Addison, I didn't connect with her at all, I didn't even like her. I could sort of understand where she was coming from in the beginning and why she was doing what she was doing. However once the story got going I understood her less and less, I found myself picking at her actions and losing respect for her because of the way she handled things. An example of which I'm going to attempt to give without giving away any spoilers. Her and Foster have a falling out, she leaves and then feels content to stay in an upscale hotel on his dime! She's mad at him when she should be the one feeling guilty. And her staying at a luxury hotel he's paying for makes her no better than what she accused him of early on in the book. That probably won't mean much to you if you've yet to read this book but those are my thoughts lol. Basically I didn't much like her as a person, I found her to be a hypocrite and actually rather cheeky and presumptuous. I'd have kicked her out on her a$$!
Now Foster I found I had a soft spot for. I liked that underneath it all he was actually quite unsure of himself and self-conscious about certain things. I liked that he was a bit bumbling at times, it was very endearing. And I suppose I kinda thought by the end that Addison didn't deserve his forgiveness, well maybe she did but he didn't make her work hard enough for it and her attempt at apologising was pretty lacking.
Overall the story is a good one but I feel it could be improved upon with a bit more excitement, it's a bit slow in places. This review is very much expressive of my personal tastes so if you've an interest in this book, don't let it put you off. Give it a go, you may love it, because I can definitely see how some people will.

Over the course of the last 6 months, things don’t seem that cut and dried anymore, though. If chasing down Hector means endangering the woman he loves, is it really worth the risk? If sending his club to war against one of the most dangerous cartels in the world means ruining the one good thing in his life, is the price worth paying?

Review: Empire (Eagle Elite #7) by Rachel Van Dyken

*****5 Stars*****

Let me start by saying Wow I am floored yet again by the talents of RVD. I think this has to be the best book in this series so far. I don't know if it's because I felt that there was more anger and aggression put into the feelings of the characters or because the sex scenes seemed a little hotter than usual ( which I loved by the way so make no mistake in reading this different) but seriously I don't think it would have mattered even if it was toned down because it would still have worked. This series just keeps on getting better and better. I won't rehash Sergio's story because it would open up spoilers for Elude (book 6) where Sergio's story first started. Let's just say Sergio has lost a lot and he has hit the lowest point in his life where he's fighting within himself to get back. The question is can anyone escape from the clutches of hell?
We see all the usual characters from this series with their witty banter and support network. We meet some new characters as well opening up the writing channels for more in the series meaning we don't have to say goodbye to our Mafia boys just yet. (yippeeeeee).
As usual RVD has written a flawless story that draws you in and keeps you hooked until the very last words are read. Forever one of my favourite authors where a blurb is not needed and even going in blind I know I will be drawn in hook line and sinker with a great storyline and enough humour and emotion in all the right places. This is one of those series you would kick yourself for not reading, I'm just sorry I hadn't ventured into this series sooner.

Review: Disgrace (The Choices Trilogy) by Dee Palmer

*****5 Stars*****

You know, when I read Dee Palmer's first book (Never A Choice) I loved it. I knew it was a part of a trilogy and eagerly hoped to get the chance to review the second book (Always A Choice). I did and it was even better!
As the trilogy came to an end with the third book (The Only Choice) I was not only invested in the characters but the sub-characters too. So I was overjoyed to hear about a new book, tied to the trilogy but that could be read as a standalone. Ethan's Fall was brilliant!
And so we come to Disgrace.
Also connected to The Choices Trilogy, this can be read as a standalone too. This book was fantastic! It's a really great love story with enough kink in it to get your pulse racing! I guarantee you'll love it!
Jason is a phenomenal character. Someone who knows what he wants and does what he needs to do, to get it. Selena is tough as nails. She's got a reputation and doesn't take bull from anyone. How can two Doms work?
This story has so much to offer. It's beautifully written and well edited. There are amusing moments, lots of anxious moments (I felt sick to my stomach at least once), plenty of shout at your kindle moments, love, lust and so much more! It's dark in some places, saccharin in others. It's got something for everyone.
It is, in my opinion, Dee Palmer's best work yet. It's perfect!

Review: Tyson Caine (Brothers in Arms #1) by Aleya Michelle

****4 Stars****

Tyson Caine is the eldest brother of three brothers, Tyler and Thomas are 16 and 14, he seems to take on a lot of responsibility when it comes to his two younger brothers like for example makes sure they get out of bed etc, which I found strange as both are 16 & 14 years old, his father is a drunk and his mother wants to keep the peace all round.
Tyson's best friend is Brooklyn, he's always been there for her as she has for him, both start to see each other in a different light but are too scared to take the chance, to take things any further just in case they loose the friendship they hold so dear to them, but life is for taking chances.
I liked this book, it was a quick, easy and sweet read, I would love to know more about Tyson's brother Tyler so I'm hoping the author decides to tell his story, the storyline was good, flowed right and all the characters were well developed.

Review: Bad King by M. Malone

****4 Stars****

Bad King was a quick, sexy read. It's the first in a series of books written by various authors that all involve a high class strip club called Club Prestige. This particular book features Olivia, a partial owner of the club and King, an arrogant, rich businessman.
I instantly fell in love with Olivia. She is sassy, opinionated, and has no trouble playing with the big boys and holding her own. She has tunnel vision when it comes to her love life. She is sure her best friend Bennett is her soulmate - she just has to convince him. As far as King is concerned. She thinks he's a jerk and wants as little to do with him as possible.
I agreed with Olivia's initial assessment of King. He is not a terribly likable character at first. He's all about his work and cares little for the people around him. He has a really low opinion of women, assuming they're all out for his money. When his parents force him settle down, he decides to find the most inappropriate wife he can and once Olivia catches his eye at Club Prestige the hunt is in motion.
I enjoyed watching King and Olivia with each other. Olivia gave as good as she got and the banter between the two was very funny. They also hot great chemistry and their scenes were hot! Thanks to Olivia, King slowly grew on me and redeemed himself by the end of the story. King also helped Olivia realize that sometimes, plans can and should change as he helped her look past her dreams of making a life with Bennett.
