Behind The Curtain is a beautifully written second chance romance that manages to be both passionate and extremely emotional. I was intrigued by both main characters and it was a pleasure reading about a character from a culture and religion not often represented in romance novels.
Asher and Laila meet one summer and there is instant an instant connection. In no time at all they are engage in a passionate summer romance. Laila struggles with the knowledge that Asher would never be accepted by her family since he is white and not a Muslim. Almost immediately you realize things will not go smoothly and while you're be swept up in their romance, you find yourself waiting for the other shoe to drop. When their relationship is eventually discovered, Laila is forced to choose between her family and a man she has grown to love.
Fast forward eight years. Asher is a successful foreign correspondent and Laila has found a way to live out her passion for music. When Asher finds himself back home between assignments, he visits a nightclub to experience the newest sensation and is immediately drawn to woman singing behind a curtain. When de realizes it is Laila he is torn between rekindling an old flame or keeping his distance from the woman who chose her family over him. Laila is just as torn. Is she willing and courageous enough now to risk her family's displeasure for the chance at love.
