Ash Novak is a talented dancer from Slovenia, following his dream he sells everything he owns and buys a one-way flight to Las Vegas where he's been promised a visa to work as a dancer and a spot in a theater dance production. Sadly what he was offered is not what he found when he lands in Vegas. Immediately it becomes clear something shady is going on when a big, mean looking guy is there to meet him at the airport and promptly relieves him of his passport and phone.
Ash soon learns that he is now in the employ of the Russian mafia and unfortunately has attracted the sinister attention of the boss's head of security, Sergei.
This book is an emotional read, Ash really does draw a lot of feelings out of you, I felt so sorry for him and scared for him. I just wanted to reach into my kindle, snatch him up and take him away from the nightmare he'd found himself in.
But one lady beat me to it! Laney is possibly the strongest, most resilient leading females I've ever come across in a book. She has her own struggles that she faces daily. She suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis and although some days are better than others, when her condition is at its worst she requires a wheelchair just to get around and the tiniest of movement is excruciating agony for her. Despite her challenges she comes to Ash's aid when she finds him in serious trouble, she puts her own neck on the line for him because that's just the sort of person she is.
I found their relationship very sweet but passionate too, almost explosive at times. I understood why Ash was the way he was and the way he reacted sometimes and I think Jane Harvey-Berrick did a fantastic job of portraying a victim of a traumatic event. But on the other hand I really felt for Laney at times and wanted to slap Ash for the way he treated her sometimes.
This is another great, emotional read from Jane Harvey-Berrick, one I'd definitely recommend.
