Review: Lexington and 42nd (The Off Field Series #1) by Kim Carmody

****4 Stars****

Assuming this is a debut novel from this author, I have to say it's a pretty good debut novel.
First we have Emma Lexington, an Aussie girl who travels to New York on a 12 month job exchange to work for the New York Warriors where she meets the elusive Will Jensen, the All Star Quarterback. Despite an instant attraction between the two, a large portion of the book is taken up with Emma being reluctant to pursue anything with Will.
There is very little on field action which I have to admit I was happy about because I know little to nothing about the sport.
As for Will, well despite the book giving very little away about his physical appearance, he is pretty near perfect as far as leading fictional guys go. His determination to pursue Emma relentlessly despite her repeated refusals demonstrated how committed he is when he wants something. As i said, there was not a lot of description about his appearance so my own imagination came into play as far as he was concerned and I'm pretty impressed with my own image of him.
Now I can't discuss this book without mentioning the sex scenes. They weren't particularly graphic and I've certainly read some pretty intense scenes in the past, but there was just something about Will and Emma together. Maybe his complete dedication to her, maybe it was the whole build up and wishing the two would just get it on. But whatever it was it made the scenes all the more HOT.
Yes there were a couple of issues with not a lot happening for portions of time and there was so much back and forth between Will and Emma that I felt dizzy at times, but quite honestly the final 30% just did it for me. The dilemma Emma had about pursuing a relationship all comes into play and makes for a pretty good first book of the series and I for one cannot wait for the next book. Not bad for someone who knows absolute zero about American Football.

It was meant to be the job opportunity of a life time.

It turned out to be so much more…

At the age of twenty five, Emma Lexington takes off to New York on a once in a life time twelve-month job exchange with the New York Warriors. Determined to make the most of the opportunity, she prepares herself for life in the big apple—fast paced, exciting and a whole lot of fun. What she hasn’t prepare for though, is meeting him.

The charming Will Jensen is in the prime of his playing career. As the star quarterback for the Warriors, his carefree, football centric life is thrown into disarray when he meets Emma, the beautiful, easy going Australian girl who joins the Warriors staff.

Unwilling to throw her professional reputation away on a fling with the playboy quarterback, Emma turns down Will’s advances, even though she can’t deny the attraction she feels for him. Their pull toward one another grows, but it takes a near disaster for Emma to finally give Will a chance.

Getting together might have been hard, but figuring out how to stay together will prove even more challenging as Emma must decide between conflicting loyalties.

Lexington and 42nd is a fun, sexy romance, set in the exciting world of the NFL in the fabulous city of New York.
