I really enjoyed this book which is a great opener to this series and as such I am already looking forward to the future books. I have to admit I didn’t even read the blurb on this one and have only read M/M from this author before so I was pleasantly surprised by the female lead character and the author does both genres equally well.
Emery is searching out a man that she feels holds the answer to a missing persons case that she has a vested interest in, as it is her cousin, and which has influenced her life so much that she now works for a company that offers the kind of closure and answers she seeks. That man turns out to be Wren who is a mysterious intriguing character, that initially appears quite aloof and detached which fits the role of him being a ‘Fixer well. However, Emery soon gets under his skin and the attraction between the two is obvious and mutual. And though Wren is intent on warning Emery off he soon finds himself puled in by her questioning.
What ensues is a great suspense romance as Wren feels compelled to help Emery as she is unaware of the dangers she is getting into and though he tries to fight it, his attraction to her develops. The romance is a slow build but once they give into the attraction there are a couple of steamy scenes but many are fade to grey though I like that the emphasis is kept on the mystery/suspense element of the story. Emery is a ballsy character that won’t back down and as such there is a great deal of banter between the two that I enjoyed and at times I wanted to give her a shake. But all that aside can Emery and Wren get to the bottom of her cousin’s disappearance?
There is a cast of additional characters that I am sure we are going to get to know better through this series and I am looking forward to more.
