Review: Country Heaven by Vicki Green (Country Love #1)

****3.5 Stars****

I’m a little confused by how I feel about this book as I really enjoyed the love story at the heart of it but I just felt the execution wasn’t as good as it could have been I’m sorry to say.
Memphis is a good country boy that is a character you like straight away that seems old before his time. After struggling to manage the farm he has inherited after his parents passing away Memphis decides to take in hands on the premise of bed and board in return for working on the farm while hoping to help people out along the way. His first two hands have been successful and then he takes in Sadie at the request of her father and Jag who he has doubts about from the offset.
Sadie is a really complicated character to get to grips with she has an outer image that spells trouble and after getting herself into trouble with the wrong crowd yet again her father has decided to send her off into the middle of nowhere to learn about herself and think about her actions it would seem. Yet Sadie’s inner monologues dismiss the entire spoilt rich kid image and you actually feel sorry for her, despite her initial attitude to those around her. I really found Sadie finding almost every male she crossed as instantly attractive to the point of wanting to hump them and question her connection to Memphis so annoying that I just rolled my eyes as I felt it did a dis-service to the heart of the story and made you doubt any attraction between the two main characters until almost the end of the book.
Jag is trouble with a capital T and Memphis knows this from their first meeting but his good nature decides to give Jag a chance. Soon it becomes apparent that Jag has intentions to drag Sadie into his troublesome ways and when it all goes wrong he is hell bent on revenge that puts Memphis and Sadie repeatedly in danger. However this does eventually seem to be the push they need to recognise their feelings and for Sadie to recognise the mistakes she has made in her past but will they be able to make a future together?
The issues I had with the book was primarily the country boy language used for Memphis’ character, I really struggled with reading it and for me it made reading this book hard work and so less enjoyable. I also felt a lot of the inner monologues of the characters were long winded and very repetitive with not enough discussion of those concerns between characters. And lastly there were too many parts of the story that were just left unvisited or tied off too easily for my liking, mainly all tied around the character Jag who it seems was just placed in the story to cause trouble with no explanation of the consequences that came from the trouble he caused especially Sadie’s reactions to them.
However, I am intrigued by the Epilogue for the next book in the series and look forward to Colby’s story.

Blurb:

Heaven is in the eyes of the beholder,
To help others see that beauty,
Makes the heavens open its loving arms
Memphis Johnson loves his Montana ranch. It is something he has worked hard for all his life. When his Pa died, he swore he would give back by helping others see the beauty in the land, as Pa did for him. But with that can come trouble and even heartache. One misfortunate girl begins a different kind of hard work for Memphis. He tries to help her learn the ropes and tame her wild ways. His heart opens too wide for her, and he finds he has to change tactics fast or lose her.
Sadie Tisdale is your typical ‘city girl’, with the latest fashions and a wealthy father who gives her anything she asks for. She loves to party, hang out with the wrong people and doesn't have a care in the world until one night… After being arrested, again, her father has had enough of her wild ways and decides to teach her a lesson. A lesson which could cost her the love of her father and the money she is supposed to receive on her twenty first birthday if she doesn't comply.
Spoiled city girls don’t mix with country. Will Sadie learn there is more to life than staying out all night and having sex with a different guy each time? Can she calm her wild ways or will she run?
